Hi, my name is Jessamy Bower and I am a recent transport from Virginia. I grew up in Northern Virginia, and then moved to Charlottesville for college. After graduating with my Bachelors in English and Masters of Teaching from the University of Virginia in 2002, I began my 21 year teaching career in Charlottesville City Schools. My husband, Jason, and I decided to relocate to Bloomsburg to be around family, and finally made the move at the beginning of July of last year. In addition, we have 2 boys. Nate is 16 and entering his Junior year in high school, and Beau is a rising first grade student here at St. Joseph! In my free time I really enjoy exercising, reading, rewatching the Office and Friends with my teenager, listening to Taylor Swift music, and watching Virginia Cavalier football and basketball on TV and in person! I have spent my entire career teaching history and English to 5th graders, but when I transferred my teaching license to Pennsylvania, I decided to pursue higher grades, which has been a passion of mine. The subject of English has always been in my heart. It was through my love of high school English, and the wonderful novels that we studied that originally inspired me to be a teacher. As I have moved through my career, however, I developed a new love HISTORY. I am endlessly fascinated by how history can change through new discoveries and new perspectives, and I especially love to teach history with a detective flare. I find the most effective results all start with an inspiring question. These questions are the starting point as kids forge their own path; finding their own answers based on the evidence in front of them. find that no student's journey is the same, and the sharing of our experiences at the end of each unit can be really moving. My absolute favorite unit to teach is the Revolutionary War and the creation of our nation after. I discovered the musical Hamilton about 5 years ago, which enables me to combine English, history, and music in one MAGICAL unit. I hope I was able to communicate to you the passion I have for teaching, and how excited I am to be starting this new chapter in my career and meeting everyone. You will find that I am always open to questions, concerns, and ideas, and I love to hear about any of your expertise that may enhance our learning. Please don't hesitate to reach out any time!
