Mrs. Ridings' Second Grade
Second Grade worked so hard on this next edition of our classroom newspaper. Our topic this time: Writing your own Personal Narrative. We have free copies in the hallway outside our classroom to take! Enjoy!
What Second Grade is learning in November
We are wrapping up Chapter 3 about basic facts to begin the month. Next we will begin Chapter 4 on two-digit addition.
Correct slant, size, and shape of our letters will be our goal this month.
Upcoming units concentrate on words that end in k or ck as well as more long vowel spelling patterns.
We'll be finishing up chapter 2 on common, proper, plural, singular and possessive nouns. Then we move onto chapter 3 about verbs.
We have been assigned to become members of the Second Grade Press and we write for the classroom newspaper called "The Scoop". Our second assignment is to write our own personal narrative. We must write our rough drafts and meet with Mrs. Ridings, our official editor, before typing out our articles on our Chromebooks. The deadline to meet before the papers hit the printing press is the first week of Novemeber. Our November-December issue of The Scoop will be published and available for your reading pleasure the second week of Novemeber. We hope you enjoy it!
Unit 4 focuses on: compound words, hard and soft c/g, diagraphs and y as a vowel.
We are continuing with Theme 2 which has focus skills of making predictions and identifying the plot of a story. We are working hard on high frequency word recognition and learning new robust vocabulary. Upcoming stories from our Story Town textbook include: "The Great Ball Game" and "Click, Clack, Moo! Cows that Type"
Second Grade is finishing up learning about Confirmation and then moving along to learning about the Church Year Calendar.
Our final projects for the pumpkin life cycle came out fabulous! Make sure to check out the display of our work in the hallway!
Who knows the three branches of government and what they do? Second Grade sure does! This is a fun unit to complete and the class always has such interesting questions.
About your teacher:
Who is excited for Second Grade?? I know I sure am!! For those of you who may be unfamiliar with me, my name is Mrs. Julie Ridings and I have been teaching for about 10 years, this will be my 9th year in a Catholic School setting. I have 7 years experience of teaching second grade and I love teaching with all my heart! I know many of our students from last year and feel comfortable with picking up right where they left off in from June to continue giving them a quality and faith based education. Wait until you see all the amazing things we are going to explore, learn, and experience together! As always I am a firm believer on positive reinforcement and try to run my classroom in an uplifting way to work towards goals. I also want you parents out there to know I am 100% open for communication on any thoughts, concerns or ideas you have. Please do not hesitate to private message me here on Parent Square or my email ( email@example.com ). Thank you for all you do and for allowing us to educate your child here at SJS!
