About your teacher:
My name is Mrs. Julie Ridings and I will be your child’s 2nd grade teacher this year. I have a dual degree from Bloomsburg University in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I have taught 1 year in a public school setting and 6 years teaching at another Catholic School. This is my third year teaching at Saint Joseph’s School and I look forward to teaching your child many new skills and concepts throughout this school year. My teaching methods are based on a positive learning atmosphere in the classroom with respect for faith, children and teachers.
What we are learning the month of September:
Math: We are working hard on place value this month. Learning how to show numbers in different ways, finding patterns to count on, and grouping in ones, tens and hundreds.
Spelling and Phonics: Short and long vowels with various spelling patterns are the focus this month.
English: Sentences, sentences, sentences! We are learning about the different kinds of sentences and what they need to become a complete thought.
Handwriting: Correct letter formation to be neat is the name of the game this month.
Religion: We are learning about Jesus and what it means to be a disciple of Christ.
Reading- Our focus skills are the characters in a story along with the main idea and supporting details. We are working hard on our high frequency words and new robust vocabulary. Stories from our Storytown text book include: Authur's Reading Race, Frog and Toad All Year, Henry and Mudge, and a play titled Neighborhood News.
